MANILA, (Mabuhay) — Julia Barretto, who recently acknowledged having struggled with anxiety attacks, shared that the pandemic has taken a toll on her mental health, like many who are staying home amid the community lockdown.

She opened up about dealing with anxiety during an online interview along with sisters Dani and Claudia and their mother, Marjorie.

“There are really days, there are really times that randomly in a day, or at night, when you’re about to sleep, the whole situation, it does hit you, it does sink in, what you’re going through,” Julia said.

“And then you feel the anxiety, and then you start overthinking a lot of things. We never know what’s going to happen next.”

Julia, 23, has nonetheless learned to manage such episodes, explaining that self-awareness is key to regaining her calm.

“Before, I didn’t understand what was happening for a very long time, until I started to get to know myself more when I’m having an attack. It’s different for everybody, how they cope, how they deal with it,” she said.

“I’ve learned to allow it, to face it, to acknowledge, ‘OK, I’m having an attack right now’.”

Julia agreed with Claudia, who is running a mental health campaign called “Mind Games,” on the topic of coping. They pointed out that for some, being alone and being productive may help address anxiety attacks while for others, including Julia, alleviating the episode may sometimes need a loved one’s touch and comfort.
